Caring for your garment
Try not to wear your cashmere garment next to rough clothing, metal necklaces, bracelets, belts or rough fabric as this may damage your delicate garment.
Washing is recommended before long term storage.
It's much better to fold rather than hang! Hanging may stretch the garment and leave shoulder dimples.
Plastic bags may give off gasses which can discolour your garment.
Store in a dry moth free drawer, chest or cupboard.
Pilling
Pilling is a natural occurrence on cashmere and cashmere silks it is not indicative of an inferior garment, it is an inevitable consequence of this luxury fibre. After wearing your new cashmere garment for the first few times you may find small balls of fibre forming on the surface. These small balls, or pills, are caused by some of the loose fibres tangling together as areas of your garment are rubbed during wear. Pilling may also be caused by friction with a seat belt, handbag straps or synthetic linings of another garment or general abrasion during regular wear. Pilling may be remedied by manually picking off, careful cutting or using one of our battery operated defuzzer revitalisers available to buy online (see right). After defuzzng your garment wash according to the washing instructions (see right).
Billie and Gruff Cashmere and Cashmere silk washing instructions.
Washing
Properly washed and cared for a Billie and Gruff garment should keep their shape and last for many years with a baby shampoo or a product such as Woolite. Be sure to dissolve these thoroughly in lukewarm water before putting in the garment.
Hand washing a cashmere or cashmere/silk knit garment will actually make it softer over time. Woven garments should be dry -cleaned so as not to lose their shape, E.G. Scarves.
- Move the item around in the cool water for several minutes before rinsing until the water is clear.
- Wash different coloured garments separately and do not use bleach.
- Squeeze the garment gently, being careful to not twist or wring it.
- After removing the excess water lay the garment flat on a towel and smooth into its original shape.
- Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
- When dry if necessary, press using a cool iron and a damp cloth, working from the inside of the garment only.
Alternatively modern washing machines replicate gentle hand washing cycles and we have cleaned Billie and Gruff cashmere and cashmere silk knitted items successfully using the recommended temperatures and settings.
A small capful of baby shampoo can be used in your washing machines detergent drawer if preferred or again use Woolite
Long live your Billie and Gruff garment!
